Taormina is a magnificent city in which wonder is found round the corner. The city itself inspires admiration for its terrace-like shape given by the way the city evolved and has been constructed through the years. As an example of its rich cultural heritage, the Teatro Greco or Teatro Antico, as you may wish to call it, is a must-visit which dates back to the 3rd century. The theatre was built taking advantage of the natural shape of the hill. It affords a magnificent panoramic view which dominates the Bay of Schisò and Mount Etna.
One of Taormina’s most important buildings is Palazzo Corvajo, which is in fact a castle. It is called simply Palazzo for its outstanding importance. No one will wonder which one you are referring to.
Near Taormina, the small village Castelmola, which was once a defence-site in the medieval times, dominates an unsurpassed view of the scenery and has a 13th century cathedral and the 17th century Church of San Giuseppe. Savoca, located close to Taormina, is today and ancient village of centuries of fascinating history. It was a flourishing city in the medieval times where a castle and a wall had been built. Today visitors can go on excursions and visit the entrance gates ad the crypts (besides Palermo, the only ones on Sicilia) where embalmed bodies of remarkable villagers of the 18th and 19th century are displayed. Savoca was Il Padrino’s shooting location and today the bar were some scenes were shot can also be visited.
Le Gole dell’Alcantara, whose 25 metres of height stun the viewers, sit in the Alcantara Valley. Le Gole is said to be originated by a seism which by breaking in two an ancient lava flow let a river run through the opening.
The lido located by the B&B beckons guests to surrender to pleasure for it is provided with deck chairs to soak up Taormina’s sun, sun umbrellas, bathing huts, bathrooms and showers.
